GlaxoSmithKline Subscribes to Gene Logic's GeneExpress Suite of Gene Expression Information Products

Agreement to Include Access to BioExpress Module and In-House Data Integration

GAITHERSBURG, Md., Dec 10, 2001- Gene Logic Inc. a leading provider of biocontent and bioinformatics solutions, announced today that GlaxoSmithKline has adopted Gene Logic's GeneExpress(R) Suite of information products for use in its drug discovery and development efforts.

The subscription agreement is comprised of two components. GSK will gain access to the BioExpress(TM) Module, the largest data subset of the GeneExpress(R) Suite, which consists of gene expression and associated clinical information from a broad range of normal and diseased human tissues, tissues from model animal systems and human and animal cell lines, for direct application in their target identification and target validation studies.

In addition, the agreement provides for Gene Logic to construct with GSK a separate customized database containing segments of GSK's in-house data, which will be fully integrated with the BioExpress(TM) data.

The resulting database and interface will be a fully integrated, secure and seamless environment that will be used as a primary research tool and will enable GSK researchers to rapidly cross-reference many of the conclusions they have derived in-house with the more expansive reference backdrop of the BioExpress(TM)data set.

The multi-year subscription agreement provides for broad deployment within GSK of the BioExpress(TM) Module and the GSK-derived data. As is customary with any GeneExpress(R) subscription, GSK will also utilize the accompanying GeneExpress(R) Software System, the robust bioinformatics interface for the GeneExpress(R) Suite, which includes data mining, analysis and visualization tools, across GSK's global research and development infrastructure.
