02-Feb-2011 - Germany

Analytik Jena AG reported sales of EUR 23.7 m in the first quarter of the current financial year 2010/2011 (previous year: EUR 21.6 m). This corresponds to sales growth of 10.1 %, meaning that, as in previous years, the Group again achieved record sales. Earnings were also up on the previous year, with the consolidated operating result (EBIT) amounting to EUR 2.2 m in the first three months (previous year: EUR 1.9 m), a year-on-year increase of 15.7 %. Earnings per share amounted to EUR 0.22 (previous year: EUR 0.21).

The manufacturer of analytical, bioanalytical and optical systems and molecular diagnostic reagents reported particularly strong sales and order development in its largest division, Analytical Instrumentation, which generated sales of EUR 14.5 m in the first three months of the current financial year - up 17.2 % on the same period of the previous year. The Optics division, whose business had suffered from the global economic crisis in the past two financial years, also returned to sales growth with a figure of EUR 1.2 m, a year-on-year improvement of 15.1 %. Sales in the growth segment of Life Science remained constant in the first quarter at EUR 8.0 m (previous year: EUR 8.1 m).

"Analytik Jena has enjoyed an extremely positive first quarter, returning to the stable business development it has seen over the past six years following the non-recurring effects that impacted results in the second half of the 2009/2010 financial year," commented Klaus Berka, CEO of Analytik Jena AG. "This excellent start to the financial year is important and will provide a solid basis for significant sales and earnings growth across all three divisions in the 2010/2011 financial year as a whole."
