18-Nov-2003

NKT Holding has entered into an agreement concerning sale of NKT's life science company Scandinavian Micro Biodevices A/S (SMB) to Inverness Medical Switzerland GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Inverness Medical Innovations, Inc., USA. With the sale of SMB, the plans to focus NKT's portfolio of development businesses on activities in the photonics field have now been carried out.

Under the new ownership SMB shall be continued as a wholly-owned subsidiary within the Inverness group, which develops, manufactures and markets consumer products, such as pregnancy tests and professional diagnostic products, such as strep tests. Inverness is strongly positioned in its main business areas in the United States, Europe and Japan.

The advanced process technology for manufacturing biochips and the know how related to handling biological samples on a micro-scale, both of which are foundations of SMB's core competency, possess significant future potential for Inverness.
