Stockholm-Uppsala Professor receives prestigious cardiovascular award
Prof Lars Wallentin awarded Gold Medal at the European Society of Cardiology Congress 2010
Stockholm-Uppsala based scientist, Professor Lars Wallentin M.D., has been recognized for his outstanding contribution to research in the development of cardiology at the annual European Society of Cardiology Congress (ESC 2010).
Hosted in Stockholm, ESC 2010 is the world’s leading cardiovascular event attracting over 30,000 people from across the world, including 20,000 cardiologists. Professor Wallentin is one of three individuals recognized by the industry body with a Gold Medal – one of the most prestigious awards in cardiovascular health.
Professor of Cardiology at the Uppsala Clinical Research Centre (UCR) at Uppsala University and Uppsala University Hospital, Wallentin’s key achievements include developing new methods for diagnosis and treatment in acute coronary artery diseases, such as pioneering the use of molecular biomarkers in cardiology. He is the chief researcher of cardiovascular disease at UCR and leads several global clinical trials incorporating more than 60,000 patients worldwide.
Professor Lars Wallentin said: “I am extremely honored by this award. Stockholm-Uppsala has long played host to excellence in life sciences. Access to patient registers and biobanks has been critical for me throughout my career, and the presence of these in the Stockholm-Uppsala region has been an important enabler during much of my research.”
