Charles River Acquires NewLab BioQuality AG

Charles River announced the acquisition of privately-held NewLab BioQuality AG (NewLab), a Dusseldorf, Germany-based contract service organization that provides safety and quality control services to biopharmaceutical clients. NewLab has approximately 150 employees.
Both Charles River and NewLab provide analytical, molecular biology, virology and microbiology testing services to ensure identity, quality, stability and safety of biopharmaceuticals, and operate in full compliance with current GMP/GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) regulatory guidance. Together, Charles River and NewLab expect to provide the most comprehensive service package in the biopharmaceutical industry at a time when biologic drugs are becoming an increasing proportion of therapeutics in development.
With current operations in the United States, Scotland and Ireland, the transaction will expand Charles River's current biopharmaceutical services footprint by adding two facilities in continental Europe and will further enhance its European and Asian client base.
