Federal grant for expert system for automatic analysis of data quality in clinical trials awarded to Freiburg partnership
In the framework of the development scheme ‘Central Innovation Scheme for Medium-sized Businesses’of the German Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology (BMWI), clinIT AG, based in Freiburg, Germany, has been awarded a six-figure federal grant in cooperation with the Institute for informatics of the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg, Faculty for Data bases and Information Systems.
The IT company, clinIT, intends to develop a novel tool for automatic analysis of data quality in all types of clinical studies. Up to now, such analyses had to be carried out individually for each project via the application programming. On the basis of rules, this new tool will formalize this process and make automatic processing accessible.
According to the company, this innovation will give project and data managers with no specific programming skills the means to measure and control the quality of data and processes over large-volume study libraries/data bases, for the first time now. The data quality is crucial in a clinical trial, in order to be able to reach accurate and reliable conclusions on the safety and efficacy of the test medication. The new development of clinIT and the Freiburg Institute for Informatics represents not only a decisive advance from the perspective of cost-effectiveness, but especially also in terms of the patient’s well-being.
