Invitrogen to Hold Annual Global Volunteer Day; More Than 1,000 Employees Worldwide Giving Back to Their Communities

Invitrogen Corporation (Nasdaq:IVGN), a leading life sciences company, will hold its second annual global volunteer day on Thursday, July 28 with 19 locations participating around the world. Approximately 1,300 employees worldwide will take part in various community and non-profit activities focused on this year's theme--People and Planet.

The second annual global volunteer day is part of Invitrogen's Global Citizenship program. The program is dedicated to supporting the communities in which its employees work and live through science education, environmental sustainability, volunteerism and donations to outstanding non-profit organizations. Invitrogen is providing employees with a half day of company time, transportation to each volunteer site and the resources necessary to perform each of the tasks.

-- Carlsbad, Ca.--Cleaning and improving Batiquitos Lagoon area

-- New Zealand--Volunteering at Middlemore Hospital

-- Canada--Assisting the True North Youth Program

-- Eugene, Ore.--Supporting the Native Seed Collection at Willow Park Preserve

-- Frederick, Md.--Packing and delivering food for the area's Food Bank

-- Grand Island, NY--Serving lunch at the Golden Age Center's Annual Picnic

-- Madison, Wis.--Assisting the United Way with a local building project

-- Scotland--Renovating Robin House Children's Hospice

-- Israel--Organizing event for Back to Life youth cancer survivors

-- Japan--Donating blood on-site
