Miltenyi Biotec Sets up International Headquarters in Singapore

The world's no.1 in magnetic cell separation and cellular therapy strengthens its presence in the Asia-Pacific Rim.

16-Dec-2004

Singapore. Singapore is the dynamic gate to Asia, and in recognition of this fact, Miltenyi Biotec has opened the international headquarters at Suntec City. During the initial phase of operation, this has already led to the foundation of subsidiaries in Japan (Tokyo), China (Shanghai, Beijing), and Australia (Sydney). For future expansion, the company is also planning to form a subsidiary in India 2005/2006.

Miltenyi Biotec, founded in 1989, is the world market leader in magnetic cell separation. With nearly 800 employees worldwide, the company offers a broad and continually expanding portfolio of products for cell biology, cell analysis, cellular therapy, and molecular biology. The R&D departments constantly develop novel approaches for researchers in immunology, cell and molecular biology, bioinformatics and stem cell technologies. Outstanding expertise brings about inventions in polymer and surface chemistry, physics, and electronics for the manufacture of highly innovative instruments and ancillary equipment. With successful clinical products, Miltenyi Biotec has taken the step from research to therapy, and will launch numerous new products, reagents, and devices in the near future. Including the exclusively distributed Baxter cell therapy products, the company covers more than 90 percent of the cell therapy market. Additionally, Miltenyi Biotec acts as a service provider for high-tech solutions in bioinformatics, gene expression profiling, and generation of transgenic disease models. Through its Miltenyi Bioprocess branch, the company offers cGMP-compliant manufacturing facilities for biopharmaceuticals and related products and services. cGMP cell-processing services for clinical applications like adult stem cell therapies are provided by the Cellular Products Division, while the TheraSorb Division offers unique medical instruments, adsorbers, and tubing sets for therapeutical apheresis. The Legal and Regulatory Affairs departments ensure that all Miltenyi Biotec products and processes meet the highest standards.

Miltenyi Biotec runs subsidiaries in several European countries, USA, and is now expanding its business into the Asian-Pacific markets. This global experience enables Miltenyi Biotec to recognize specific regional requirements in terms of health and medicinal problems, research topics, and applications. Singapore, on the other hand, open-minded and high-tech-oriented, is a hub for highly talented and motivated scientists, and the gateway to the Asia-Pacific region and a perfect cultural connection between East and West. It is mandatory for Miltenyi Biotec to evaluate the options for establishing new R&D facilities in Singapore.

Additionally, Miltenyi Biotec finds many distributors in the vicinity, but also in nearby countries like Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia - a major advantage, because proximity and trustful contact to customers has always been an important asset of Miltenyi Biotec. And as a matter of fact, more than half of the human population lives in this part of the world. With the Singapore head office it is now also possible to offer local tech support according to renowned Miltenyi Biotec standards - without the restrictions resulting from different time zones.

The Asia-Pacific HQ is located at Suntec City, with all important contact addresses close-by - especially important for exploring potential cooperation partners with respect to clinical and market supply, and for the identification of contract manufacturing customers. Supported by the EDB and stimulated by the foundation of Biopolis, Miltenyi Biotec Asia Pacific expects a regional annual growth of 70-80 percent.
