Aventis Bio-Services Realizes Multimillion Dollar Savings with Informatica

Company Leverages PowerCenter Data Integration and PowerAnalyzer Business Intelligence Platforms

28-Jan-2004

Informatica Corporation , a leading provider of data integration and business intelligence software, announced that Aventis Bio-Services, Inc. (ABS), one of the world's largest plasma collection companies, is achieving a significant return on investment using Informatica's unified data integration and business intelligence infrastructure to obtain actionable insight from donor, plasma and collection operations data. With the Informatica solution, ABS has significantly enhanced the cost effectiveness of collection centers' operations resulting in multimillion dollar savings and productivity improvements.

"Our Informatica-enabled business intelligence solution has revolutionized the way we do business and given us a significant competitive advantage," said Alberto Martinez, M.D., senior vice president and general manager at Aventis Bio-Services, Inc. "By tracking key information about our collection centers' performance, we now have greater insight to support critical business decisions and have realized significant efficiencies so we can focus on what we do best -- assisting in the development of life-saving plasma-derived therapies for people with hemophilia, and people who suffer from severe burns, shock and other life-threatening conditions."

With 58 collection centers across the U.S. and approximately 2.5 million liters of plasma collected from hundreds of thousands donors per year, ABS tracks plasma donations and collections data, along with other center-related data, residing in multiple disparate systems supporting the daily business transactions. To make use of that data for business decisions, ABS uses Informatica's PowerCenter data integration platform to successfully integrate various data sources into a flexible data warehouse. These disparate sources include its donor-management, time-keeping, logistics and other home-grown applications, as well as SAP. As a result, over 250 users from the executive management, collection centers, operations management and corporate support departments can easily measure the effectiveness and efficiency of the ABS collection centers using Informatica's Web-based PowerAnalyzer business intelligence solution.

ABS is using PowerAnalyzer to track key performance indicators including collection volume and costs, processing times, the distribution of return donors and new donors as well as safety and quality indicators. By analyzing this information daily through dashboards and indicators, ABS is able to track center performance against strategic collection levels and cost objectives, and make operational recommendations to collection centers to support the center's ability to meet their targets.

"The challenges of data integration and business insight are as important as ever at companies like Aventis Bio-Services that effectively leverage their operational data for improved efficiencies and rapid decision making," said Girish Pancha, executive vice president of products at Informatica. "With PowerAnalyzer, Aventis Bio-Services users can now access personalized business dashboards to track and analyze performance metrics. By implementing Informatica's unified infrastructure, the company is maximizing the value of its operational information today, while ensuring its scalability and flexibility into the future."
