JFC - Jülich Fine Chemicals and Prokaria enter into strategic partnership on new enzymes for asymmetric reduction
JFC - Jülich fine chemicals GmbH and Prokaria ehf today announced the signing of a partnership agreement. This strategic move brings together one of the world´s most diverse extreme ecosystems and the most interesting growth segment of chiral selective biosynthesis.
Under the terms of the agreement the partners will commence a screening and de-velopment program for novel biocatalysts to synthesize chiral alcohols. These mole-cules are key components, used to produce active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and hence play an important role in innovations in fine chemistry and pharma. The endeavor is well supported by the competence of the partners. While Prokaria plays a home match in identifying novel enzymes in the biosphere of arctic areas and hotsprings of Iceland, JFC is a well established production and marketing company in the fine chemistry industry.
"This is one of the most exciting opportunities in the history of our company" says Prof. Jakob Kristjánsson, President and CEO of Prokaria. "Positioning, competencies and size of JFC are an excellent complementation of our own assets and we have hopes to attract the attention of important customers soon."
In Jülich, Dr. Thomas Daußmann, CEO of Jülich Fine Chemicals, commented: "The alliance with Prokaria adds a new growth potential to our business. The new bio-catalysts we seek to develop belong to the most wanted components in the branch."
