Information Nibbles for the Half-Time Break!

CHEMIE.DE explains science in everyday life using easy-to-understand infographics

24-Jun-2016 - Germany

Football is on everyone’s mind at the moment, but do you know what the balls used at the EURO 2016 are made of and why they are so robust? How does suntan lotion protect your skin and how do contact lenses work? Science is around us everywhere and all the time, though we’re often not aware. The CHEMIE.DE science portals now host a range of informative and easy-to-understand infographics that invite you to spend the half-time breaks finding answers to some of the questions you have always asked yourself. "Fast and fun ways of picking up general scientific knowledge are increasingly popular and can complement traditional, text-based ways of learning," says Dr Björn Lippold, the responsible editor at CHEMIE.DE Information Service GmbH. "With our infographics, we continue to introduce novel ways of absorbing information to our nearly five million users."

Infographics expand the intuitive and concise information available on the CHEMIE.DE portals.

Europe's leading online information provider took a first step in this direction in April 2016, when 300 informative and educational videos were made available on its portals. The infographics now expand the intuitive and concise information available on the CHEMIE.DE portals. They cover a wide range of topics, from the standard amino acids and mass spectrometry to the interpretation of spectra and the chemistry of gin. "Our editorial team indexes the contents to ensure that the appropriate infographics appear when our users check our special topic pages or use the portals’ search facilities to look for specific terms, instruments or techniques," Lippold adds.
