Technology Collaboration to Optimize Medical Research

BioStorage Technologies has recently collaborated with the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM), Susan G. Komen Tissue Bank (KTB) and Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (Indiana CTSI) to develop a groundbreaking technology initiative focused on enhancing sample utilization and optimization by researchers. This collaboration leverages BioStorage’s ISIDOR(R) technology solution which consolidates and integrates research samples and data in order to enable improved visibility and access to samples in storage, connect relevant data to these samples and ultimately advance medical research.

“We identified synergies to innovate with a fellow Indiana-based life sciences organization, BioStorage Technologies, and create an environment where sample assets and data sharing across the enterprise will enhance opportunities to support and fast-track future research endeavors,” remarked Anantha Shekhar, MD, PhD, Executive Associate Dean for Research Affairs, IUSM and Director, Indiana CTSI. The IU School of Medicine is the largest medical school in the country with nine campuses across the state of Indiana. “A technology platform that provides visibility and efficiencies in our sample inventories and connects to our research data will enable us to optimize and leverage the valuable sample assets across our organization and will be instrumental in advancing our research progress.”

ISIDOR(R) is a transformational and scalable informatics platform which integrates research and sample data to advance bioscience discoveries. “It was a pleasure to partner with these leading US medical research institutions. BioStorage Technologies and IU Health are in current discussions regarding the next steps in advancing this technology project. The utilization of the ISIDOR technology solutions platform at IU Health allows for greater sharing and optimization of research samples and associated data across the enterprise. The focus by IU Health is on evaluating opportunities for leveraging the integration of sample and research data. In addition, this project is generating internal efficiencies in the management of research samples, enabling improved data sharing and paving the possibility for the development of an online marketplace for the sharing and cost-recovery of research samples.
