analytica: Diverse range of information in related-events program

05-Apr-2012 - Germany

Some 1,000 exhibitors from the laboratory-technology, analysis and biotechnology sectors will present their latest products at analytica in Munich from April 17 – 20. Besides the exhibition and the scientific analytica Conference, a practice-oriented program of related events awaits visitors. There will also be new Live Labs and lectures in the forums as well as special attractions on the topics of careers, financing and training for laboratory experts.

From lecture forums on biotechnology and laboratory and analysis techniques to theme days that revolve around financing trends for life-science companies and tips for upcoming industry professionals: “analytica and its program of related events gives all visitors synergy that optimizes their visit to the fair that goes beyond the exhibition,” explains Katja Stolle, Exhibition Director for analytica.

Live Labs

The Live Labs – real laboratory environments that leading companies are setting up in Halls A3, B1 and B2 – are celebrating their premiere at analytica. They will allow experts to give live demonstrations of the latest methods and techniques in the fields of forensic and clinical diagnostics, plastics analysis, and food and water analysis. These special shows also give visitors a chance to speak with manufacturers directly and discuss their specific applications.

Biotech Forum

On the first three days of the fair, the Biotech Forum in Hall A3 features lectures from experts representing exhibiting companies on the latest techniques and solutions in the biosciences. For example, New England Biolabs is introducing a mass-spectrometry technique for identifying post-translational modifications (PTM) in proteins. ForteBio is presenting an optical biosensor technique that measures proteins and other biomolecules in just a few microliters of sample. LGC Genomics, on the other hand, will show how high-throughput techniques for sequencing, SNP genotyping and PCR analyses can help to improve performance in gene analysis. Representatives of the pharma industry should find the lectures on in-vivo imaging of living cells and small animals in cancer research or on chromatographic purification of therapeutic proteins and antibodies interesting. Finally, the Biotech Forum also features relevant information for food analysts including a lecture on the new endotoxin detection solution from Hyglos.

Laboratory & Analytics Forum

At the Laboratory & Analytics Forum in Hall B2, several companies are focusing on the promising field of nanotechnology. Representatives of Postnova Analytics and Wyatt Technology Europe will report on progress in field-flow fractioning, which is used to separate and measure both small particles and biopolymers. Tescan has developed a multi-nano tool that combines imaging, analysis and nano-structuring. Classic analysis is also becoming more efficient. EMD Millipore has combined IR spectroscopy with a membrane technique, which makes it possible to detect biopolymers. In the field of liquid chromatography, presentations from Waters and Dichrom will explain why switching over from HPLC to the more efficient UPLC continues to improve. Thermo Fisher Scientific will report on the use of high-resolution mass spectrometry techniques for food analysis. There will also be several presentations with valuable tips and tricks for routine analysis such as how to purify laboratory water in chromatography, new grinding techniques and automated sample preparation.

Finance Day

Finance Day in Hall A3 is on the last day of the fair. This is where biotechnology companies meet with potential investors. In panel discussions and lectures, experts will deal with topics ranging from “Early-phase financing: Are HTGF and business angels defying the financial and economic crisis?” and “Venture capital: A shortage of growth capital for life-science companies” to “Industrial biotechnology – Germany’s pioneering role in a key industry of the future” and “Biotech companies listed on the stock exchange: A healthy environment for the life sciences?” The “elevator pitch” allows gives new entrepreneurs a chance to interest investors in their projects by presenting their business ideas in short ten-minute presentations directly at the fair.

analytica Job Day

On Friday, April 20, analytica Job Day in Hall B2 will revolve around the topic of jobs and careers. This is where industry professionals and HR managers meet with qualified entry-level employees. At the same time, natural scientists, engineers and technicians can use jobvector career day, which is organized by the jobvector careers platform, to explore the possibility of a new career challenge. Trade associations such as the German Life Sciences Association (VBIO) and the German Chemical Society (GDCh) and companies such as Kelly Scientific, Olympus, Eppendorf, DIS, Shimadzu, Bayer and Sandoz are participating in the jobvector Forum.
Thanks to Students Day, analytica Job Day also has a special range of information for high-school seniors who are interested in the various job descriptions and areas of responsibility in the industry. Students Day is organized by the GDCh, the Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (GBM) and the VBIO.

Education and training

Laboratory directors and employees who want to expand their technical know-how will find a corresponding range of training courses available at analytica. The training and consulting specialists at Klinkner & Partner are offering several courses during the fair. The courses, which are held directly next to the halls, allow participants to update their scientific know-how or improve their laboratory and quality-management skills.
