Premiere of Live Lab: analytica 2012 takes visitors to the world of laboratories

13-Feb-2012 - Germany

For the first time ever, portions of analytica Halls B1, B2 and A3 will be transformed into genuine laboratory environments. International companies will present their equipment in live operation on laboratory benches. Daily experiment presentations will inform visitors about developments in the fields of forensics and clinical diagnostics, plastics analysis, and food and water analysis. analytica 2012 takes place in Munich from April 17 – 20.

Exhibition Director Katja Stolle: “By introducing the Live Labs, we are establishing new elements that allow visitors to exchange information about products and discuss specific applications with manufacturers under actual working conditions directly at the fair.” In addition, daily live demonstrations on the topics of forensics and clinical diagnostics, plastics analysis, and food and water analysis allow experts from the industrial and scientific sectors to deal with the latest issues and introduce innovative methods and techniques.

Analysis has also become an indispensible factor when it comes to searching for evidence and ultimately catching criminals. However, besides being important in forensics, modern analysis techniques and molecular-biology methods are also essential in clinical diagnostics. The Live Labs will allow visitors to gain insights into the latest developments such as doping and respiratory-gas analysis. One of the highlights is an appearance by Germany’s best-known criminal biologists, Mark Benecke, on the first day of the fair. He will use DNA analysis to draw conclusions on fictitious crimes and criminals.

In the field of food and water analysis, experts are trying – among other things – to determine how safe foods are. Analysis techniques have long been an indispensable part of quality control, where they are used to characterize and quantify pesticides and toxic residues. Experts will explain the effects that chemicals have on people and the environment and the role that the interdisciplinary development of equipment systems and methods plays in the environmental sciences.

Modern and functional materials are now used in many branches of industry – from medicine to electronics and the automotive industry. The Live Lab on plastics analysis revolves around polymer analysis and examines developments in the fields of sample preparation, permeation measurements and blend analysis.

The Live Lab initiative is supported by Agilent, Analytik Jena, Andreas Hettich, Bernd Kraft, BioTek, Bruker, Carl Zeiss, Elga, Eppendorf, GE Healthcare, Gilson, Hirschmann, Hohenloher, HT-CON Unternehmerberatung, Mettler Toledo, Netzsch, Q-LAB, Retsch, SGE, Shimadzu, Waldner and Waters. In addition, the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) and the Institute for Water Chemistry and Chemical Balneology at TU Munich provide technical assistance to the Live Lab on food and water analysis, and the Live Lab on plastics analysis enjoys the support of the German Plastics Institute.
