Two international experts (Laszlo Hegedüs MD and Geoffrey Block MD) join Theraclion's Board of Directors
Theraclion announced that the endocrinologist Laszlo Hegedüs MD and the nephrologist Geoffrey Block MD had been appointed as Board members.
Laszlo Hegedüs MD is an expert endocrinologist. In 1992, he was appointed Lecturer in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at Odense University (Odense, Denmark) and was subsequently, in 1993, appointed as Head of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism and the Thyroid Research Group. In 2006, Dr Hegedüs was awarded a Professorial Chair in Endocrinology at Odense University Hospital after a number of years as Research Professor at the same institution. Since the start of his research activities in 1977, he has published or co-authored more than 320 scientific articles and book chapters and over 400 abstracts and oral presentations. He has won several scientific prizes for his work, including the 2008 Frontiers in Science Award from the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. Laszlo Hegedüs graduated in Medicine from the University of Copenhagen and completed his training in internal medicine and endocrinology in several Copenhagen hospitals. He was one of the first to understand the role that ultrasound could play for the diagnosis and therapy of thyroid disorders and his 1990 Doctor of medical Sciences thesis dealt with the use of ultrasound to measure thyroid size objectively and to define which factors influence this measure. Laszlo Hegedüs is a much used lecturer and teacher world-wide and an Editorial Committee member for Clinical Endocrinology, The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Thyroid Research and The Journal of the Danish Medical Association. Currently he is one of the Editors of Clinical Endocrinology, the journal of the British Endocrine Society
The nephrologist Geoffrey Block MD specializes in treatment of hyperparathyroidism and has a particular interest in developing innovative therapeutic alternatives for this condition. Dr Block practices at Denver Nephrology, a single-specialty private nephrology practice in Denver, CO (USA). He is the Director of Denver Nephrology's Clinical Research Department, which he created to further enhance the care and treatment of patients suffering from chronic kidney disease. Dr Block has been an attending physician at Denver's Saint Joseph Hospital since 1998 and was appointed as an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado in 2000. He has served as Medical Director at DaVita-Lowry Hemodialysis Unit since 1999. Geoffrey Block is an accomplished researcher who has authored or coauthored several dozen scientific articles. He has won several prizes for his work, notably including an Award for Clinical Excellence in both 2006 and 2007. Geoffrey Block graduated in Medicine from the University of Cincinnati and completed his fellowship at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Dr Block is a reviewer for a number of American and international scientific journals, including The American Journal of Kidney Disease, The Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Circulation, The Journal of Renal Nutrition and Kidney International.
