Robert Maloney (doctor)Dr. Robert Maloney is an ophthalmologist specializing in vision correction surgery. His present positions are director of the Maloney Vision Institute and Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology, at the David Geffen-UCLA School of Medicine Additional recommended knowledgeDr. Robert Maloney is best known as the LASIK surgeon on ABC's television show, Extreme Makeover, and has also been featured on CNN’s World News Tonight, Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, NBC's Extra, ABC's 20/20 and Primetime Live. Dr. Maloney has been sued several times by disgruntled patients and while not arising in a lawsuit, comedian Kathy Griffin blames Maloney for her bad LASIK experiences.1 2 He was born in Los Angeles, California in 1958, and attended Harvard University, from which he was elected to Phi Delta Kappa and received a summa cum laude degree in Mathematics in 1976. He was then a Rhodes Scholar at Magdalen College, Oxford, and received his M.D. degree from the University of California, San Francisco, followed by postgraduate training at Cambridge University, University of California at Los Angeles, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Emory University. He is a pioneer in LASIK refractive surgery, and has received many awards, including the Senior Achievement Award and the Secretariat Award of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is the recipient of the 2001 Distinguished Lans Award, given to one surgeon in the world for innovative contributions to vision correction surgery. He has been consultant to VISX, Advanced Medical Optics, Bausch and Lomb, Calhoun Vision, Premier Laser Systems, and Intralase. He has been on the editorial board of 6 ophthalmology journals, and was Associate Editor for North America for the Journal of Refractive Surgery from (insert dates).
