Rivka CarmiDr. Rivka Carmi (born 1948) is an Israeli pediatrician and geneticist who, since December 2005, is the president of the Ben Gurion University of the Negev. She is the first woman president of an Israeli university. Additional recommended knowledgeBefore being appointed president, Carmi served (from 2000 to 2005) as the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Ben Gurion University of the Negev (and she was also the first woman in Israel to serve in that capacity). Her research focused on genetic diseases, in particular among the Bedouin population in the Negev. One of her discoveries, the Carmi Syndrom, is named after her. She is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. |
