PracticeWorks
PracticeWorks is practice management software for dental offices. It was originally created in 1993 by Brian Smith and Joel Kozikowski of Crown Systems, Inc. in Indianapolis, Indiana. The two left PracticeWorks, Inc. and formed the Lighthouse Practice Management Group [1] in 2003. Several mergers and acquisitions have occurred, InfoCure in December 1999, SoftDent and Kodak recently spun off Kodak Dental Systems (most recent owner of PracticeWorks) as a component of CareStream Health in 2007 which was acquired by Onex Corporation.. The current version is 7.0. Additional recommended knowledgeThe program is constructed in a modular form, administrative module, voice activation module, charting module, and imaging module. the program is both compact and potentially expandable to a “paperless” office depending on the different modules added. Runs on a modern SQL database. The application uses the Pervasive SQL database engine. The current support version of Pervasive SQL is Pervasive SQL v. 8.6. Has specialized Orthodontics and Oral and maxillofacial surgery versions which account for a large percentage of the user base. Kodak has been improving imaging features, lot of automation features built in, allow but do not encourage or technically support 3rd party linking to the database, run macros. Fairly locked in to their e-claims clearinghouse the Kodak's Electronic Claim Processing Service, limited to 3 fee schedules, use the blue book to get accurate estimates for other insurance companies.
