The MND Association organises the International Symposium on ALS/MND, a unique annual event which brings together leading international researchers and health and social care professionals to present and debate key innovations in their respective fields. The Association's Chief Executive is Dr. Kirstine Knox. Since 2006 the President of the Association has been Lembit Opik, following his father's death from the disease the previous year. Patrons of the Association include Sarah, Duchess of York (following the death of a close friend's husband from the disease) and Sir David Frost.
