Methyl isothiocyanateMethyl isothiocyanate, CH3N=C=S, also known by the acronymn MITC, is a low melting (m.p. 31°C) colorless solid used in organic chemistry. It is a volatile (b.p. 117°C) lachrymator. Density 1.07 g cm–3. Its most characteristic reaction is with amines to to give methyl thioureas:
