Joints In Motion

Joints in Motion is a program organized by the Arthritis Foundation, including a marathon/hike, professional training, and fund raising support activities, all with the objective of raising funds and promoting awareness of arthritis. The event itself is held several times annually, in varying locales worldwide; participants have wide choices in both timing and location. The Foundation provides runners with support in the time leading up to the event, including a personal trainer, materials for preparation and promotion, and other resources for fund raising. Travel arrangements and accommodations for the participants are all made and paid for by the Foundation.

Past and future locations for the marathon include Amsterdam, Honolulu, Arizona, Quebec City, and Walt Disney World. Some events are hike-oriented, while others are more geared toward running or walking; none of the events are intended as a race. The Foundation encourages relatives of arthritis patients (which they call Arthritis Heroes) to participate. Fundraising is the responsibility of marathon participants, possibly including yard sales, prize drawings, bracelet sales promoting awareness, and sponsorships from friends or family. Funds go towards arthritis-related education, treatment, and research.
