Haplogroup V (mtDNA)
In human genetics, Haplogroup V is a human mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) haplogroup. Additional recommended knowledgeHaplogroup V is believed to have originated approximately 12,000 years before present, possibly in Iberia. It is found with particularly high concentrations in the Sámi population of northern Scandinavia, as well as the Basque people and somewhat higher among the isolated Pasiegos in nearby Cantabria. Haplogroup V derives from the Haplogroup HV, which also gave rise to Haplogroup H. In his popular book The Seven Daughters of Eve, Bryan Sykes named the originator of this mtDNA haplogroup Velda.
