GingivostomatitisGingivostomatitis is similar to cold sores which are caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus 1. Gingivostomatitis is caused by the primary infection of the virus, whereas Herpes Labialis(Cold Sores) are caused by the Reactivation or recurrence of the infection. Herpes simplex virus is a dsDNA virus. There are two types HSV1 and HSV2. These agents, although related, differ significantly in terms of antigens and DNA sequence. HSV 2 is primarily associated with genito-urinary tract disease while HSV1 is associated mainly with orofacial disease.
