Developmental cognitive neuroscienceDevelopmental cognitive neuroscience is an interdisciplinary scientific field, which overlaps with neuroscience, psychology, developmental science, and cognitive science. It is concerned with the development of cognitive functions, their neural basis, and the development of their neural basis. Researchers in the field use behavioral, experimental, and brain imaging techniques and focus primarily on children rather than other species. Additional recommended knowledgeIt is to be distinguished from developmental neuropsychology, as neuropsychology has come to be concerned primarily with patient populations, while developmental cognitive neuroscience addresses both typical and atypical development. It is to be distinguished from developmental neuroscience as that concerns physical brain development primarily at the cellular and molecular levels and primarily during the pre-and neonatal periods. It is to be distinguished from cognitive neuroscience and cognitive science primarily by its developmental focus. It is to be distinguished from developmental psychology primarily by its emphasis on brain-behavior relations. See also
