Codon DictionaryCodon Dictionary is a table of genetic codes. Most organisms translate their genes into protein structures using an identical, nearly universal Codon Dictionary in which each amino acid in the protein is represented by a combination of three nucleotides: a codon. For example, the sequence AAA (Adenosine) in a gene is transcribed into the sequence UUU in messenger RNA and is then translated as the amino acid phenylalanine. Additional recommended knowledgeWithin genes that encode proteins, the nucleotide sequence of DNA is read in these blocks of three consecutive nucleotides, without punctuation between the blocks. There are no spaces in mRNA to denote the end of one codon and the start of another. Instead, a group of triplets is determined solely by initial position of the pattern-making machinery at the start of the translation. |
