He received his M.D. degree from Dartmouth Medical School which was followed by ophthalmology residency at Saint Louis University Eye Institute and fellowship training in refractive surgery at University of Kansas Medical Center and Durrie Vision.
He is board certified.
Ophthalmology
Dr. Boxer Wachler is recognized as a pioneer in vision correction which includes LASIK, phakic intraocular lens (Visian ICL and Verisyse), presbyopia correction, and conductive keratoplasty.[citation needed] He is also known as a pioneer for keratoconus treatments which include Intacs, corneal collagen crosslinking with riboflavin (C3-R), and conductive keratoplasty. He has been honored with the Achievement Award and Secretariat Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology as well as being voted into Best Doctors in America. He serves on the editorial advisory board of AllAboutVision, an objective provider of eye-related consumer information on the Internet.
Dr. Boxer Wachler has appeared on CNN, NBC News, CBS News, ABC News, and Fox News. He has also been featured in USA Today, Newsweek, Time, US News and World Report, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Shape, Fitness, and Women's Health.
Malpractice
Boxler is named in several internet message boards as having been sued several times for malpractice but the accuracy of the message boards cannot be confirmed. He has been sued at least once by laser vision correction patient.[1]
