The LEA-devices measure in skin, skeletal muscle, liver, kidney, bone and tendon the local blood flow, the post-capillary oxygen saturation and the regional amount of hemoglobin, by a device called O2C (oxygen to see). In angiology the critical limb ischemia as well as chronic venous insufficiency can be detected easily. In vascular surgery the wound healing and the amputation level can be determined, avoiding prolonged healing processes and frequent amputations. The monitoring of micro-vascular transplants is a standard task of O2C (oxygen to see) in the plastic surgery departments. The O2C can define the status of a transplant (e.g. kidney) and can so predict the delayed craft function (DGF) already during the operation. In research the O2C (oxygen to see) has a high potential for the determination of ischemia, angiogenesis, sepsis, gut-anastomoses, oxygen metabolism, cytochrome-redox-state and many other fields of application.
