The laboratory Becker, Olgemöller & Kollegen was founded in 1995 through the merger of the laboratories Becker (founded in 1979) and Olgemöller (formerly Prof. Gries, founded in 1967). By integrating the Bamberg laboratory in 2005, a cross-location professional community was created.\The laboratory is not only professionally, but also economically managed by the medical owners. It was one of the first medical laboratories in Germany to be accredited (since 1998 DIN EN ISO 15189, DACH). The laboratory medical service list covers the complete analytical spectrum, from clinical chemistry, coagulation and hematology to immunology, infectious serology, immunohematology and microbiology. Molecular biology techniques are in many cases the method of choice for both infectious and human genetic questions. A special feature is newborn screening, which we have been performing routinely throughout Germany since 1999 using tandem mass spectrometry.\Another focus is gynecological cytology, which has been an integral part of the laboratory since 2002. Since 2011, our laboratory also has a pathology department that performs all histo- and extra-gynecological cytopathological examinations including immunohistology of all organs as well as punctates and body fluids. In cooperation with the Molecular Biology Department, the spectrum of molecular pathological procedures is growing.\ With these core competencies, we serve a large number of physicians in private practice - several laboratory groups are affiliated - as well as clinics and university institutions and research institutes within the framework of clinical studies. For a number of acute-care hospitals, we provide complete care. We operate our own 24-hour emergency laboratories at several locations (including the Munich Red Cross Hospital), which are also available to colleagues in private practice.
