he Cobbelsdorfer Naturstoff GmbH was founded in 1994 with the aim of creating perspectives, especially for rural areas, by processing renewable raw materials into environmentally friendly products. At the start of production in spring 1995, the company began manufacturing packaging material from extruded corn grits in the form of loose fills. This material, with significant quality improvement, still represents the basic product of the company today. Through acquisition of own research capacities, as well as constructive cooperation with practical partners and scientific institutions, the production range could be continuously expanded in the past years. As a result of appropriate recipe developments and technical modifications, it has been possible to foam not only corn but also wheat and rye by means of an extrusion process, which is of particular interest to domestic agriculture. This opened up opportunities for the development of new products. For example, wheat extrudates in ground form serve as imitation snow for the film and television industry. In September 2001, the company's machinery was expanded to include form fill and seal machines. By means of these, cereal extrudates are placed in paper bags of various sizes and serve as biodegradable packaging material for high-value goods, especially in the computer industry.
