Bayer S.A.

Guatemala is the headquarters of the Presidency and General Management for the Central America and Caribbean region since 1987. It currently has close to 500 employees and is also the regional headquarters of Bayer CropScience, CentraChem and Consumer Care.

In 1915, Kaltwaser & Compañía, Ltda., had the representation of Bayer's colorant products in Guatemala. In 1962, Bayer initiates the steps to found its own company, which is established in 1963 as Bayer de Guatemala, S. A.. In that year, an area was acquired in the municipality of Amatitlán in the department of Guatemala for the construction of the agrochemical formulation plant, from which 70% of the marketed products are produced.

This plant, one of the most modern and automated in Latin America, governed by international quality standards and with a production capacity of 10,000 tons per year, supplies the Central American region and the Dominican Republic. In 1964, a second company was founded: Bayer Farmacéutica Ltda., dedicated to the distribution of the ethical products line.

In 1990, the land adjacent to the Production Plant of the Consumer Care Division was acquired at Km. 14.5 of the Roosevelt Highway in Guatemala City, with an area of 10,365 meters, destined to the construction of Bayer's administrative offices, which were inaugurated in 2000. The modern construction, which required an investment of US$3,500,000,000, occupies a total area of 3,500 sq. mts. and 2,700 sq. mts. of office space.
