About GENEWAVE

Around 2000, Dr Claude Weisbuch and Dr Henri Benisty, distinguished physicists, established contacts with Genopole, the largest French bioresearch and biotech campus. Lead users of fluorescence biochips were concerned with the poor performance of the chips: C. Weisbuch and H Benisty quickly came to realize that their light-matter background knowledge, successfully applied to laser diodes, microcavity LEDs and photonics crystals, could yield impressive advances for a variety of biochip implementations.

After deep analysis with bio-experts, who foresaw a huge value creation potential for these technologies and applications, they envisioned, with the support of Genopole, to create a dedicated company. A first patent was then applied for, in August 2000, which describes the general principles for several possible implementations of optical signal amplifiers and guides, based on light interferences in low dimensional resonant structures. This patent is now the property of Genewave.

Genewave Company was created in December 2001 by Dr Claude Weisbuch (President), Dr Henri Benisty (Scientific Consultant), and Dr François Vallet (General Manager). A few months later, Dr Gordana Cerovic, a Senior Biologist, joined the team.

The development of GENEWAVE has been also supported by OSEO-ANVAR, CNRS, Bio-CRITT and Ecole Polytechnique where Genewave's facilities are located.
