Pertinax is a patent-protected, sustained release technology for chlorhexidine. Pertinax can be used as a filler component of materials for biomedical and other applications, and in component of topical agents for use on wounds and mucosa. Pertinax confers controlled, sustained antimicrobial efficacy which, depending on the application, can be formulated to persist for weeks, months or years. In this way, Pertinax overcomes the major shortcoming of current chlorhexidine products, namely their short duration of antimicrobial activity.
