Understanding vision and healing visual disorders are the ultimate goals of vision research. The founders of Striatech emerge from this background: We are active vision scientists, working on the basic understanding of the visual system, and on developing strategies for healing blindness. Such basic research is done with animals. It is an inherent problem that one cannot ask animals how well they see; one therefore needs behavioral assays to

- evaluate their visual abilities, - judge if a certain disease affects the visual system, - verify if a new treatment approach benefits the animal.

We developed the OptoDrum system out of this urgent need for a reliable and objective device to measure the visual abilities of mice. Through interactions with numerous colleagues, it quickly became apparent that the OptoDrum system was superior to anything available on the market. Striatech makes the OptoDrum available to all vision researchers.
