Deutsche Gesellschaft für Gentherapie e.V. (DG-GT e.V.)

The German Society for Gene Therapy e.V. (DG-GT e.V.) was founded in 1994 as an association of natural scientists and doctors who were concerned with questions of experimental and clinical gene therapy. It became a registered association in 1995. The DG-GT e.V. currently has 230 members. The DG-GT e.V. brings together basic scientists and clinicians who are involved in the most diverse areas of vector development, gene transfer techniques, gene therapy treatment strategies and their implementation in the clinic. We see our task as providing a network that promotes scientific exchange at all levels and actively participates in the translation of gene therapy approaches from experimental research into clinical application in close cooperation with other national specialist societies. The DG-GT e.V. is also available as an information platform and discussion forum for questions in the fields of gene therapy, molecular medicine, stem cell biology and new molecular techniques. The DG-GT e.V. advisory board is made up of renowned experts who are available as contacts for specialist questions and discussions. A particular concern of the DG-GT e.V. is the further training of young scientists. Doctoral students are admitted to the association free of charge after a mentor has interceded. Within the network, there are many opportunities for young scientists to learn new techniques and exchange ideas with experts. Such opportunities include our Summer School, which is organized by the DG-GT e.V. on current topics in cooperation with topic-related research associations, as well as the annual DG-GT conferences.
